Your State Auditor, Jessica Holmes.
Jessica was born and raised in North Carolina and currently serves as North Carolina’s 20th State Auditor. Coming from humble beginnings in small rural town, Maple Hill, in Pender County taught her the value of a dollar and government services for vulnerable communities – that’s why she works hard every day to safeguard taxpayer dollars from fraud, waste or abuse and strengthen the effectiveness of federal and state programs impacting our everyday lives from education, healthcare, hurricane disaster recovery, services for seniors and people with disabilities, our youth and economic growth.
Jessica received her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina and has spent her career since fighting for working families as a lawyer, a county commissioner, and now as the first Black woman to serve on the North Carolina Council of State.

The gravity of being the first Black woman on the North Carolina Council of State, in a state where my ancestors were slaves, is a humbling honor. I stand on the shoulders of leaders who have come before me such as former State Auditor Ralph Campbell, Jr., who made history in 1992 as the first African American elected to a statewide constitutional office in North Carolina.
